  Agriculture 

  The central region of Jilin Province is located at the world famous "golden corn belt", which is flat and fertile and is an important commodity grain production base. The province's grain production capacity has reached a new stage level of 50 billion jin. Jilin Province is also a new animal husbandry base, with animal husbandry output value accounting for 48% of total agricultural output value. Horticulture and specialty industry is unique and seeing rapid development, of which ginseng output accounts for 80% nationally and more than 70% internationally. Over the years, the food commodity rate, per capita share of grain and per capita share of meat of Jilin Province have ranked No. 1 in China. July 2008, the State Council executive meeting discussed and adopted the capacity-building plan for Jilin to increase grain output by 10 billion jin, which has brought new opportunities to the development of grain production and related industries in Jilin Province, and will promote the capacity of grain production and the level of agricultural modernization to a high step.  

  Agricultural product processing industry is undergoing rapid development and has become a new pillar industry in Jilin Province. There are 381 provincial leading enterprises and 34 national leading enterprises. Changchun Dacheng Group is the world's third-largest integrated corn processing enterprise, whose lysine production ranks No. 1 in the world. Haoyue Group with a processing capacity of 500,000 cattle is Asia's largest beef processing company. 

  Industry 

  Jilin Province is an important industrial base. During the New China "First Five-Year Plan" period, the country’s 12 key projects were invested and built in Jilin province, including FAW Manufactory, Jilin Chemical Plant, Jilin Dye Processing Plant and Fengman Power Station, which have laid a good foundation for industrial development in Jilin. After more than 60 years of construction and development, industrial structure has been optimized, leading industries have been rapidly expanded, and upgrading of traditional industries have taken significant steps, hence the substantial improvement in industrialization. So far, a relatively complete system of modern industry with such three major pillar industries as automobile, petrochemical and agricultural product processing and such advantageous industries as medicine and optoelectronic information as the main body has been formed.  

  Changchun FAW Group, the cradle of new China’s auto industry, has edged into the ranks of the Fortune 500 and has formed the heavy, medium, light and sedan car R & D and production capacity. PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Corporation has crude oil processing capacity of more than 8 million tons and annual ethylene production capacity of 850,000 tons. Changchun Bus Factory has become Asia's largest production base of rail vehicles, with number of passenger trains on hand and urban rail production accounting for more than 50% and 85%.  

  Since the revitalization of old industrial bases in Jilin, according to the deep-seated contradictions such as high proportion of state-owned enterprises and lack of long-term vitality for development, Jilin Province has vigorously implemented state-owned enterprise reform, and more than 90% of the province’s local state-owned enterprises have completed the task of restructuring, thus enhancing enterprise development vitality and state capital control. The province has seen rapid development of industrial economy and a substantial increase in efficiency, especially automobile, passenger train, agricultural product processing, medicine and other pillar and advantageous industries have shown a momentum of rapid development. 

  Transportation 

  The transportation of Jilin Province, with the provincial capital Changchun City as the center, has highway and rail networks to connect all the major cities in the province and radiate to major cities throughout China, and basically forms an easily accessible, efficient and convenient modern transportation system. 

  By the end of 2009, the province's highways have a total mileage of 88,430 km, and classified highways 77,643 km, accounting for 87.8% of total mileage, of which super highways have a mileage of 1, 035 km; substandard highways have a total mileage of 10,787 km, accounting for 12.2% of the total mileage. 

  The railways of Jilin Province, with Changchun as the center, have Changda, Changha, Changtu and Changbai main trunks to radiate in all directions. The province has 3, 913 km railroad lines opened to traffic. 

  The aviation industry is undergoing rapid development. The civil aviation of Jilin Province has an aviation network with Changchun Longjia International Airport as the center, Jilin and Yanji and Changbai Mountain airports as the backbone, with radiation to neighboring countries and regions. It is open to navigation to more than 30 cities, and has opened up more than 40 international, domestic and regional routes. China's first forest tourism airport - Changbai Mountain Airport has been put into service. 

  Posts and Telecommunications 

  The province has 989 post offices and houses, and has 41,380 km postal routes and 20,161 km long-distance optical cable lines. The province’s central office telephone switching system has a capacity of capacity of 8.6 million gates); there are 5.813 million fixed telephone subscribers, including 4.254 million urban telephone subscribers and 1.159 million rural telephone subscribers, with fixed telephone penetration rate of 21.3 per hundred persons. There are 15.742 million mobile phone subscribers, with mobile phone penetration rate of 57.6 per hundred persons, up 7.7%. There are 2.279 million Internet broadband access subscribers.  

  Finance 

  The province has 4,741 various financial institutions, 34 listed companies (including overseas), 33 of which are domestic listed companies, and 1,807 various types of insurance company branches. It has reorganized and established Bank of Jilin, and set up Jilin Province Investment (Group) Corporation and Northeast SME Credit Re-guarantee Co., Ltd., and established China’s first Animal Husbandry Lending Center. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, South Korean Hana Bank, China Merchants Bank, Minsheng Bank, CITIC Bank and Industrial Bank have settled in Jilin. 

  People's livelihood 

  With the rapid economic development, people's living standards have improved significantly. In 2011, the province's per capita disposable income of urban residents reached 17796.57 yuan, up 15.5%; and per capita consumption expenditure of urban residents was 13010.63 yuan, up 11.4%. Per capita net income of rural residents reached 7509.9 yuan, up 20.4%; and per capita consumption expenditure of rural residents was 5305.8yuan, up 27.9%. The urban and rural Engel coefficients reached 32.7% and 35.3% respectively. Urban per capita housing area was ​​28.88 square meters, up 0.47m²; and rural per capita housing area was ​​24.4 square metersup 1.5m². The province's social security coverage is expanding.
