  Land resources  

  Jilin Province is located in the world-famous belt of black soil. The organic matter content of surface soil is 3% to 6%, and as high as 15% or more. The province has a total of 16.4 million hectares of agricultural land (including farmland, woodland, grassland, irrigation and water conservancy land, and water surfaces for breeding, etc.), accounting for 86% of the total land area, with 17 percentage points higher than the national average level. The whole province has 5.535 million hectares of cultivated land, accounting for 30% of the land area, ranking No. 9 in China. Its 3.05 mu of arable land per capita is twice the national average. Jilin has maintained dynamic balance of the total quantity of arable land for 20 consecutive years. 

  Forest resources 

  Jilin Province has abundant forest resources, and is one of the key forestry provinces in China. The province has forestry land area of ​​9,286,000 hectares, forest land area of ​​8,209,000 hectares, and a total reserve of 913.87 million cubic meters of live trees, ranking the sixth nationally. Changbai Mountain, known as "Changbaiforest sea", is one of China's six major forest areas, which has a wide range of rare trees such as Korean pine, oak tree, ash, northeast China ash and Phellodendronamurense. "Changbai Pine", a rare tree peculiar to Changbai Mountain, is called "Beauty Pine" for its straight trunk, bright bark and charming shape, and is included in the "National Key Protected Wild Plants" promulgated by State Council in 1999.  

  Mineral resources 

  Jilin Province is rich in mineral resources, is the one of the 16 major metallogenic provinces in China. It has 115 kinds of proved-reserve mineral resources, and the reserves of advantageous minerals such as oil shale, molybdenum, nickel, magnesium, wollastonite, diatomite, bentonite, volcanic slag, ceramic shale and mineral water rank the forefront nationally. Jilin Province has extremely rich mineral water reserves, and eastern Changbai Mountain region has intensive mineral water resources, known as one of the three world’s famous mineral water concentration areas on a par with the Alps and the North Caucasus region. Jingyu County is named "China’s Changbai Mountain Jingyu Mineral Water City" by Mineral Water Professional Committee of China Mining Association.  The production of bottled water from Jilin Changbai Mountain mineral water has leapt to No. 3 nationwide.  

  Grassland resources  

  Jilin Province is one of eight major pastoral areas in China. The whole province has grassland area of ​​1,043,500 hectares, mainly in the eastern mountains and hills and western grasslands. Easter grasslands are scattered with high yield of grass; while western grasslands are vast and concentrated with good-quality grass, especially famous for abounding guineagrass, which is an important base for the development of animal husbandry. Since the implementation of ecological planning and construction, Jilin Province has carried out ecological grass construction in 12 western counties (cities, districts) to reduce the bearing pressure on grassland, so that the grassland vegetation has been significantly restored.  

  Water resources  

  Jilin Province is located on the upper and middle stream of the main rivers of the northeast region. The province has river and lake area of 265,500 hectares and 1,648 rivers and streams which have a drainage area of more than 20 square kilometers, respectively belonging to such five major river systems as Songhua River, Liao River, Yalv River, Tumen River and Suifen River.  

  Its water resources are naturally advanced, the water resources that can be developed total 5.008 million kilowatts, and it has Baishan, Hongshi, Fengman and other larger hydropower stations. The province has 1397 lakes with a water area of more than 0.067 square kilometers, which are mainly divided into three types – crater lake, fluvial lake and inland lake. Eastern mountain areas have intensive river network and large amount of surface runoff; while western plains have rich groundwater. Jilin Province has 13 large reservoirs, has 98% of water resources in the eastern mountain areas, and has Baishan, Hongshi, Fengman and other large hydropower stations. 

  Wildlife resources 

  Jilin Province has 445 kinds of terrestrial wildlife, including 14 species of amphibians, 16 species of reptiles, 335 species of birds and 80 species of mammals, accounting for 17.66% of the number of various wild animals in China, in which birds account for 30.36%. 76 species have been listed in the "List of National Key Protected Wildlife", including 14 species of mammals and 61 species of birds; 18 species are wildlife under first-grade state protection, 58 species are wildlife under second-grade state protection, and 291 species are listed as terrestrial wildlife of benefit or of important economic or scientific research value under state protection. There are 3,890 species of wild plants, including more than 270 species of lichen, more than 900 species of fungi, more than 140 species of ferns, 30 species of gymnosperms and more than 2,200 species of angiosperms. 16 species have been included in the "List of National Key Protected Wild Plants" (the first batch), of which 3 species are wild plants under first-grade state protection, and 13 species are wild plants under second-grade state protection. China Wildlife Conservation Association awarded Hunchun City of Jilin the title of "Hometown to Manchurian Tiger".
