Jilin Province is fairly strong in science and technology. Since the founding of PRC, whether China's first synthetic rubber, first microscope, first optical glass and first ruby laser, whether the first domestic Dongfeng-brand car and Red Flag car, the first generation of passenger train and underground electric bus or the first fully dissociated rare-earth element, first high-resolution nuclear magnetic spectrometer and the first color laser TV have been researched and developed by the research institutions of Jilin province. The province has 21 Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians (excluding double-appointed academicians). The province has built 10 national key laboratories, 15 provincial key laboratories and 81 provincial science and technology innovation centers (including engineering technology research centers). It has a strong scientific and technological competitiveness in optics, applied chemistry, solid-state physics, electronics and information technology, biotechnology, new material, modern agriculture, modern medicine and other R & D areas, and occupies a leading position in some areas.
The province has 6,184 primary schools, 1,226 junior high schools, 262 senior high schools, 384 secondary vocational education schools (institutions) and 2,691 technical training schools (institutions). The province has a total of 19 units of graduate education, 45 colleges and universities, including 26 undergraduate universities and 19 specialized colleges (higher vocational schools), as well as 10 independent institutes organized by colleges and universities and 16 adult colleges. Jilin University is a key university under the construction of national "985 Project"; Jilin University, Northeast Normal University and Yanbian University

Jilin’s literature and art disseminate a strong flavor of Kanto black soil. Jilin culture represented by Changbai Mountain and black soil culture has a long history. Jilin Province is a famous "hometown of Chinese song and dance duet", "hometown of Chinese folk culture and art", "hometown of modern Chinese folk painting", "hometown of Chinese horse head string instrument", "hometown of Chinese pipa" and "hometown of Chinese Songhua inkstone".
Changchun Film Studio is the cradle of Chinese films. The broadcast coverage of the population across the province is 98.26%; and the television coverage of the population across the province's is 98.48%; the province has 2.94 million cable television subscribers, including 1.65 million digital TV subscribers.
